Information
Fee: K-8th = $70.00 per child with a family maximum of $175.00. 9th-10th = $100.00 per child ($70.00 program fee + $30.00 for required WI Catholic Youth Rally). If you cannort afford the fees, please do not hesitate to contact Mark Lyons (DRE). No child will be denied religious education due to financial circumstances. We would love to see your child in our program rather than not participating at all. We do offer special programs if your child is attending sports, drivers education etc. on a Wednesday evening.
Calendar: The calendar has the listing of all dates and important activities during the year. There are many family and child spiritual, social and fun activities during the year. After class on Wednesday evenings, we do have open gym for those who do like to hang out and have fun. Watch the calendar.
Retreat: There is a special retreat planned during the school year for middle and senior high school youth - St. John Bosco Youth Day at Holy Hill. Sign up for this event and send in your permission slip along with your registration fees. Again, if you cannot pay for them immediately, we can make arrangements for payments.
Volunteers: If you plan to volunteer and have not completed the 'Safeguarding All of God's Family' program this must be done prior to the start of the school year. The program requires a criminal background check; read and sign the code of ethics; and attendance at a 3 hour training session. More information is available on the Safeguarding page and the forms are on the Forms page.
Handbooks: Each family will receive a handbook with all the CYF information at the beginning of the CYF school year. Please be sure to read it when received.
Athletics: Students enrolled in CYF and entering 5th through 8th grade are eligible to participate in the sports programming at John Paul II Academy.
Arrival and Dismissal Please drop off your children 10 minutes before the start of class. Children must enter the south (right hand) gym doors from the parking lot. Parents of K-2nd grade children are asked to pick-up their children in the gym. Children in the upper grades will leave through the south gym doors. Students who need early dismissal must have a written excuse by the parents. They must hand the excuse to the DRE. Upon early dismissal the child must be picked up at the school office.
Attendance and Tardiness We ask parents to insure that their children will be on time for all scheduled classes and activities. If your child will be late or absent for class, please contact the DRE or CYF office at 634-3607 between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. Parents may receive a call at home to insure student safety. If your child is late for class, please bring your child to the front doors of the school (Northwestern Avenue). An office assistant will check your child in and take him/her to class. Keep in mind by arriving late for class can cause unnecessary difficulties for both teachers and students.
Discipline We require and expect students to conduct themselves, as God would expect them to behave. If a student repeatedly disrupts class, engages in offensive behaviors, uses obscene language, possesses alcohol or drugs, the following policy will apply.
- 1st Offense: The child has a consultation with the DRE.
- 2nd Offense: The DRE will call the parent for a consultation.
- 3rd Offense: The DRE will immediately send the child home with the parent. The parent will home school the child for the CYF School year. Before returning to CYF for the following year, the child will have a consultation with the DRE.
Progress Reports Periodically a progress report will be sent home. This report is to help the child to further in his or her knowledge, participation and understanding of his/her strengths and weaknesses.
Weather Emergency Weekday Religious Education classes will be cancelled on days when Racine Unified cancels school, or when they send students home early due to snow. Please listen to WRJN-AM for CYF cancellations during inclement weather. You will also receive a phone call if classes are cancelled when Racine Unified is still in session.
Youth Group Activities We will hold special activities throughout the year for all 6th-12th graders. There will also be special events for the elementary children. See events calendar.

Think About
Please work with your children and encourage them to grow in their faith. Pray with them as a family. Share your thoughts and tell them your stories of faith. Your children will see by your example, the importance of faith and Christian education. Respond to the many questions your child may ask. Never be afraid to say, "I do not know." Seek out the answers by asking your parish Pastor.
Encourage your child to take an active role in the life of Sacred Heart. They can become involved and serve their parish: as an Altar Server, Usher/Greeter, Committee member, CYF teacher or aide. They can become involved in the Youth Group and their community. The list goes on.
Most of all attend Mass as a family and participate in the Liturgy through song, prayer and Eucharist. Help your child grow in his/her faith by knowing, loving and serving God. Be Church!
Sacramental Life
Baptism
The Baptismal Preparation program prepares parents and parents-to-be for the commitment they are making through this sacrament of initiation for their child. If you are expecting a new addition to your family, please make arrangements to attend the baptismal sessions BEFORE the birth of your child if at all possible. Classes are held as needed. Please call the parish office to register. Baptisms are held the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. The Baptismal Informaion Form can be found on the Forms page.

First Eucharist & First Reconciliation
The Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist are an important part of our lives as Catholics living together as a community. These are the sacraments of life, forgiveness, and peace. Through reconciliation, we are filled with the strength and grace to become the people we are called to be, the People of God. Preparing children for the sacrament is an important element in their spiritual formation. As parents, you have the awesome responsibility of helping your child form a good conscience; distinguishing between right & wrong and good & evil. It is through your efforts that your child establishes a system of values and a code of morality. It is through your lives that he/she comes to understand forgiveness. It is by witnessing your faith in Christ that your child comes to know Jesus. The materials you will receive should provide insights and needed information as you journey with your child through this sacramental process. We are happy to assist you in preparing your child for reconciliation, but his/her appreciation for this sacrament comes primarily from you. You, as parents, are the ones from whom your child learns most of his/her religious attitudes and values. While we provide assistance in sacramental preparation for students at John Paul II Academy and in the religious education programs at both St. John Nepomuk and Sacred Heart parishes, it is important to remember that sacramental preparation is parish-run. As part of preparation for the sacraments, there will be mandatory meetings to begin the process for each Sacrament. You will receive materials, information, and suggestions for family involvement in the preparation process. During these sessions, we will also pray together and try to renew and deepen our own appreciation of this wonderful sacrament. The immediate preparation is done at home as families.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a process of instruction, prayer and reflection to bring interested candidates into full membership in the Roman Catholic Faith. This process is designed for:
- Persons who have never been baptized in any religion
- Persons baptized Catholic who formally received no other sacraments.
- Persons baptized in other Christian traditions who desire to join the Catholic community.
A team of professional staff and volunteer parishioners provide the catechesis and support for this journey toward full membership in the Catholic Church. This process begins each September and reaches its culmination at the Easter Vigil. Adults who are 20 years or older, contact Barbara Sharp, Pastoral Associate. Children ages 7-19, contact Mark Lyons, Director of Religious Education.
